Unemployment rates fall in Mid-Hudson counties

The Daily Freeman is reporting unemployment rates in Mid-Hudson counties were sharply lower in May 2014 than in May 2013, according to data released this week by the state Department of Labor. Greene County's jobless rate last month was 6.4 percent, down from 8.1 percent in the same month a year earlier, the department said. The Columbia County unemployment rate fell from 6.1 percent in May 2013 to 4.8 percent in May 2014. Unemployment rates also fell in Dutchess, Delaware, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties. The county with the lowest unemployment rate in the state last month was Tompkins, in the Ithaca area, at 4.1 percent.
