GE planning $1B in cuts, loss of jobs likely

Larry Rulison is reporting in the Times Union the General Electric Co. CEO is planning $1 billion in cuts at its Schenectady unit. it is unclear how many of G.E. Power's 4,000 local jobs would have to be cut to achieve the goal being put forward by CEO John Flannery. The reductions are part of his plan to slash costs at GE and to narrow its focus. That level of cost reductions could not come without a significant amount of job cuts, Rulison writes. GE Power has employees around the world.
