May 19, 2018 12:20 am
Eric Anderson reports in The Albany Times Union that Empire Broadcasting shut down WPTR, WABY, and WAIX May 13 and, "The reason was declining revenue," Joe Reilly, the partner managing the operations, said May 18. "We've been losing money." WPTR was airing Bloomberg Financial news on 1240-AM, WABY played an adult album alternative format on 900 AM, and WAIX 106.1-FM aired "hot adult contemporary" music. Previously Empire Broadcasting sold off WJKE 101.3 FM, called "The Jockey," for $550,000 to suburban Sacramento, Calif.-based Educational Media Foundation, which runs more than 240 stations adult contemporary Christian music stations. "Jockey essentially got us out of debt," Reilly said Friday. "We paid off the banks. We paid off the loan." Reilly said "we've had some tire kickers" considering buying the other stations.
