Cairo-Durham board decides on use of two schools

Feb 08, 2013 6:49 am
Kyle Adams reports in The Daily Mail the Cairo-Durham Board of Education announced its decision about the use of the Cairo and Durham elementary schools, Thurs., Feb. 7. Under the new grade level realignment plan the Durham building will house Kindergarten through second grade and the Cairo building will hold grades three through five. Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) will remain at the Cairo building. The plan is projected to save the district more than a half million dollars, in the face of a projected $2.4 million deficit for the coming school year. Under the accompanying transportation plan, no child will be on a bus for more than an hour and there will be no loss of instructional time due to busing, according to Superintendent Mary Fassett. The specifics of scheduling, programs and services and other details of the new plan are pending and will be presented at a later time. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
