175th Columbia County Fair opens Wednesday

The Daily Freeman is reporting the Columbia County Fair opens at noon, Wed., Sept. 2. This year marks the 175th anniversary of the event. Visitors are expected to converge on the Chatham Fairgrounds to celebrate the county’s agricultural heritage and visit more than 200 exhibits, shows, contests, amusement rides and attractions. The event is presented every year by the Columbia County Agricultural Society, which was established in Hudson in 1840. An opening-day ceremony marking the anniversary will take place at 2 p.m. at the fairground’s North Gate Stage, and an 800 million candlepower, truck-mounted searchlight will be lit that night to beckon visitors to the six-day event.
