Election results are still not complete in Columbia County

Nov 15, 2019 12:57 am
Amanda Purcell reports in Columbia-Greene Media that nine days after voting Columbia County elections officials still have not posted complete results, and they blame early voting. But while all of New York's counties had their first go at early voting, only Columbia County seemed to have this large a delay in announcing results. “This was our first year of early voting, which included multiple sites, new technology and issues with implementation,” Democratic Election Commissioner Virginia Martin said. “We need to do better.” And, another official said, someone made a printing error. “The Board [of Elections] correctly made the ballot software generated PDF images and used the correct paper to create the ballots distributed on the first few mornings of early voting,” Republican Election Commissioner Jason Natske said. “The printer on the original ballot run laid the images improperly positioned on the paper, resulting in the scanner’s inability to read the image.” While complete results still are not posted on the county's website, election officials say they will start counting absentee and affidavit votes on Nov. 18.
