Athens-based Field Goods receives USDA grant

Max Oppen is reporting in The Daily Mail Sen. Charles E. Schumer announced a $50,000 federal grant has been awarded to the year-round, farm-fresh food aggregator Field Goods. Schumer made the announcement at company headquarters in Athens, Tue., Oct. 22. “I’m visiting today because I know how impressive the company is, and the potential it has,” Schumer said. Field Goods is a local produce subscription delivery service that connects farmers to consumers. Each week, subscribers located from Saratoga to Yonkers receive a bag of fresh local produce at their workplace or at a pick-up location. The produce is selected based on supply, quality and variety. The grant is from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Promotion Program. Field Goods will use the funds to assist in the development of its web and mobile platforms.
