GOP targets Delgado, three other NY Dems

Apr 03, 2019 2:00 pm
Alyssa Sims is reporting for City and State New York four months after taking the oath of office, U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado has been targeted by the National Republican Congressional Campaign. After losing three GOP House seats in New York last year, the party’s congressional campaign arm thinks it can reclaim seats from Delgado and other freshmen Democrats: Reps. Max Rose and Anthony Brindisi. The NRCC is also hoping that a Republican can replace Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. The New York seats are four of 55 targets for the GOP nationwide. Delgado made health care a defining issue of his 2018 run. The 19th Congressional District is Republican-leaning and went for Trump by nearly seven points in 2016 and Delgado has not tempered his criticism of the administration. He recently teamed up with Maloney to talk about infrastructure and the need to release the full Mueller report to the public. It is unclear what kind of challenger Delgado will face in 2020.
