Hunting accidents down in New York

New York's Department of Environmental Conservation reported hunting safety statistics for the 2018 fall season on Jan. 31. There were only 13 hunting-related shooting incidents, which ties the record for the fewest in the state with 2016. Three humans died from hunting accidents, according to the report. The accidents mostly involved shooting deer with five shotgun accidents, seven rifle mishaps, and one handgun accident. Six accidents only involved one person. There was one local incident: On Nov. 20 in Greene County a shooter discharged one round that stuck his cousin in the leg while they were tracking an injured deer.
