Catskill planners vote March 26 on retreat

Mar 14, 2019 8:45 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Catskill Planning Board will vote March 26 on the Piaule Landscaping Retreat proposal for Mossy Hill Road. Developers need a special-use permit because the proposal to put a 4,000-square-foot house and 20 mini-cabins, four two-bedroom, and 16 one-bedroom, on the site, is in a rural-residential zone. Resident Rosana Thompson said March 12 that Town “Supervisor [Doreen] Davis told me to come to the planning board,” but then said that developers in this case have not been operating in compliance with the town’s comprehensive plan. “Comp plan issues should be directed to the town board,” Planning Board Chairman Joseph Izzo said. “I am not aware of any issues with the plan. As far as the planning board is concerned, the plan is what we use. If there are any defaults in the plan, that has to be addressed with the town board.” Thompson pressed her case. “This is a townwide situation,” she said. “I’m concerned we haven’t identified tourist zones.” Izzo said the board would wait to vote on the issue until March 26 so they can respond to a letter from an attorney representing the neighbors of the project. “The board would like to be able to respond to the attorney in written form our interpretation of facts he’s mentioned so residents and the attorney can have a better understanding of what we think,” Izzo said. That attorney, John Privitera, has raised issues of noise, traffic, and water supply on behalf of some neighbors to the proposed project. Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
