Albany port terminal fined for pollution

Brian Nearing reports in the Albany Times Union that Buckeye Albany Terminals has been fined $15,700 fine for two violations by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The port terminals were fined for a "vapor combustion unit" letting out more pollution than legally allowed, and for excessive emissions of "total organic carbon" from gasoline being loaded from a "gasoline rack." "DEC continues to work aggressively to investigate and respond to possible violations of environmental laws and regulations at this facility," according to a DEC statement. A Buckeye spokesperson said the company "self-reported" the problems and was cooperating with the DEC. Read the full story in the Albany Times Union.
