Jack Race, former WHUC newsman, dies

Bill Williams is reporting for WCTW-FM local newsman and radio personality John "Jack" Race Sr., passed away July 30, at the age of 78. Race died at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, following a battle with cancer. Race was a Hudson native. He attended and graduated from Hudson's St. Mary's Academy in 1960. Race then attended the National Academy of Broadcasting in Washington D.C. and returned to Hudson to began a 15-year career as the news director for WHUC-AM. He was also the originator of the listener favorite, "Party Line" show. Race eventually became the Communications Sargent and Public Information Officer for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, serving in that capacity for 15 years, before his retirement in 2002.
