Residents turn out to oppose loss of gun rights

Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman rifle and pistol owners filled Ellenville Village Hall to capacity Thurs., Dec. 20, to express concern over the potential loss of firearms if village officials toughen gun laws. The 90-minute special meeting of the Village Board drew 99 people, nearly a third of them spoke. Speakers emphatically said they were not ready to give up their weapons. Village Mayor Jeff Kaplan said earlier this week in response to last week's mass killing in Newtown, Conn.,, the village government might be able to enact some local gun control measures.
