Nick Reisman is reporting for State of Politics new cashless tolling system will go live simultaneously at 58 tolling locations across the New York State Thruway system overnight Fri., Nov. 13, and full operational the next morning, more than a month ahead of schedule, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in an interview, Thursday. Workers will put the finishing touches on the new system Friday night, with drivers noticing the change the next day. The system is designed to speed up traffic at what will soon be former toll barriers along the Thruway. “You’ll have a faster commute,” Cuomo said in the interview. “It actually increases the speed of the commute by 25 percent.” Cuomo encouraged drivers to set up E-Z Pass accounts. Motorists who do not have an E-Z Pass will have a picture taken of their license plate as they exit the toll road, and drivers will be later sent a bill by U.S. Mail.
