Dec 04, 2023 12:11 pm

Matt Moment reports in the Times Union that Chatham's Joyce Goldstein Gallery hosts its final show after its founder's recent death. Goldstein died on Sept. 23 at the age of 86, and her art space will close in January with the its current show, “Horizon Line.” Local artists Susan Jennings and David Humphrey curated “Horizon Line,” saying it connects the work of more than 30 artists that appear to “hold hands” through Jan. 6 at the gallery. The Joyce Goldstein Gallery began in SoHo’s Wooster Street in 1992, and then moved to Chatham in 2005, with notices about art there at both locations featured in Artforum and the New York Times. he “Horizon Line” show reprises the theme of an exhibition at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in 2007, wherein “every work had a horizon line and (was) hung abutting works on either side with their horizons aligned to encircle the gallery.” Humphrey explains he liked, “The image of different artists sharing a literal horizon makes a lovely story about a collective made up of very heterogeneous artists.” The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-3 p.m., through Jan. 6.
