Paul Kirby reports in the Daily Freeman the best COVID-19 news lately: Ulster County officials say they are getting 3,340 doses of vaccines this week, almost twice as much as the 1,900 doses they have been getting most recent weeks. Now in both Greene County and Dutchess County 13.1 percent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. In Ulster County that number is at 14.2 percent, and it is at 16.1 percent in Columbia County. In Rensselaer County 15.7 percent of the population has received at least one shot, and in Albany County 19.1 percent have received at least one dose. There were 20 new COVID-19 cases, and one more death, announced March 1 in Columbia County. There were 18 new cases in Greene County, and 22 new cases and one more death announced in Rensselaer County. Dutchess and Ulster counties both announced 37 new coronavirus cases March 1, and Albany County announced 57 new COVID-19 cases March 1, and one more death. And in Ulster County, State Senator Michelle Hinchey, a Democrat from Saugerties, announced on March 1 the opening of a state-run COVID-19 rapid test site at 27 Grand Street in Kingston.
