Columbia County pol suggests joint Greene-Columbia jail

Jeanette Wolfberg in The Columbia Paper reports that a Columbia County supervisor suggested Greene County's current jail situation could be solved by a joint-county approach. At the April 19 Public Safety Committee meeting Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett reported about how Greene County needs a new or refurbished jail. He warned the supervisors if that the Commissioner of Corrections ever declares Greene County’s existing jail unusable, Columbia County may have to host more Greene County inmates and need more money to board the out-of-county inmates. Columbia County's jail is currently only half full. Supervisor John Reilly (R-Gallatin) suggested a joint Columbia-Greene jail. “Why don’t they have just one jail for the two counties?
