Greenville taxes may increase 7.8 percent

Nov 09, 2018 1:00 pm
Andrea Macko is reporting for the Greenville Pioneer residents in the town of Greenville could see their taxes increase by 7.8 percent in 2019. "We are definitely going to blow the tax cap this year," said Supervisor Paul Macko. If the proposed budget is adopted as is, a property owner with a $100,000 assessment would see a $53.63 increase in their town tax bill. Spending is up more than $21,000 and the amount to be raised by taxes is projected to increase almost $158,000. With approximately $75,000 left in general fund reserve, $10,535 is going toward the new budget. The cost of the rescue squad continues to increase said Macko, noting that reserve funds have been used for the last three years to help pay for the squad after it went from a volunteer to paid service. Macko described the spending plan as flat, and said no employees are getting raises. The town board also approved a spending freeze, to end all non-essential spending. All essential spending must have the supervisor's approval. No overtime will be allowed going forward, except for snow removal and public safety services. That order will remain in effect through the end of 2018, and throughout all of 2019. Read the full story in the Greenville Pioneer.
