Public sounds off on hotel plan

Jul 12, 2019 2:15 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media community members turned out June 9, to voice their opinions about the proposed Green Suites Resort in Jefferson Heights. The Catskill Planning Board is currently considering the developers application for the special use permit needed for the four-story, 48-unit hotel at the Catskill Golf Course to get built. The project was temporarily halted while the parties discussed how to increase water pressure to handle the new building safely. Attendees at the meeting raised concerns about potential changes to the street landscape, parking, increase traffic, the size of the building, and the possibility of guests trespassing on neighboring properties. Planning Board Chairman Joseph Izzo said the board did not anticipate any traffic issue. The board will ask the town to install No Parking signs along Brooks Lane, Izzo said. In the off-season, the hotel will work in partnership with Windham Mountain and may also offer cross country skiing on the golf course. The developers hope to break ground on the hotel next spring. The planning board found there would be no adverse effect on the environment caused by the project, and voted to close the public hearing. The board now has 62 days to decide on the special-use permit. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
