Thruway tolls will not increase next year

Nov 20, 2019 2:15 pm
Jon Campbell is reporting for the Democrat & Chronicle tolls on the New York State Thruway will not increase next year. The Thruway Authority's board of directors November 18, approved its $1.3 billion 2020 budget which keeps tolls flat for the coming year. And the budget includes projections indicating the current toll rates on the 570-mile superhighway system would be able to cover the authority's costs in 2021, as well. That means the existing toll freeze could stay in place a year longer than originally anticipated. Tolls represent approximately 90 percent of the Thruway's total revenue. The tolls last increased in 2010 under then-Gov. David Paterson as part of a multi-year increase in the midst of the recession. Currently, a trip from Buffalo to Albany in a standard passenger vehicle costs $12.85 when paying cash. Read the full story in the Democrat & Chronicle.
