Supervisors consider county's fiscal challenges

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star members of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors and County Controller Ron Caponera publicly discussed the status of the county's budget and fiscal health, Wed., June 5. The discussion included the possibility of selling the county’s Certified Home Health Agency (CHHA), capping the amount of sales tax revenue the county shares with towns, privatizing the Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, solid waste operations and other nonmandated programs. Board Chairman Patrick Grattan said the board does not want to follow in the steps of the Greene County Legislature, which went through a heavy round of layoffs and attrition in 2011.
