Chatham village ponders development freeze

Jun 06, 2013 5:40 am
Adam Shanks reports in the Columbia Paper the Chatham Village Board is considering placing a yearlong moratorium on commercial development. The proposal was made in conjunction with the ongoing work of revising the village comprehensive plan. Comprehensive plans set general guidelines and goals for development. Municipalities must amend zoning laws and other ordinances to address issues raised in the plan. The moratorium would not affect residential development, or plans already approved by the village Planning Board. Officials cannot yet say how the moratorium would affect commercial properties like the now-vacant Blue Seal Feeds building. The village will hold a public hearing June 13 on the issue.
