Nov 03, 2016 5:00 am

Rick Karlin is reporting at Capitol Confidential state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has released a report on immigration in New York, finding that immigrants make up 22 percent of the state's population, well above the national average of 13 percent. In addition to driving the growth of New York City and its suburbs, immigrants have helped stabilize the populations of several upstate cities, including Buffalo and Utica. The report also found that immigrants tend to be better educated and have lower unemployment rates than the national population as a whole. More than 92 percent of the immigrants settling in the state reside in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, according to the report. Nearly half of the state’s immigrants come from Latin America. Read the full report at Capitol Confidential.
