Cairo, Greenville shorten sidewalk projects
Feb 06, 2020 12:47 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that both Cairo and Greenville have downsized their sidewalk projects. The two towns will team up to save costs, but have shortened the sidewalks they previously promised. Cairo’s new sidewalk would start at the Cumberland Farms and continue to the Cairo Elementary School. Originally, Town Supervisor John Coyne said at the Cairo's Feb. 3 town meeting, the sidewalk would have extended to Bross Street. Teaming up with Greenville means the towns will spend even less on the project. “We have two projects that are really close together,” Coyne said. “We can have one staging area and save everybody money. It will be beneficial to both communities.” He said he hopes the construction begins May 1. WGXC has a recording of the Town of Cairo meeting in the Audio Archives at wgxc.org.
