Jan 05, 2016 12:02 am

William J. Kemble is reporting in the Daily Freeman Rhinebeck town officials have reached an agreement with Red Wing Sand and Gravel. That agreement requires the mining company go through a local appeal process before filing any legal challenges to recently adopted zoning amendments. “It sort of suspends the time period by which they can file a suit under (state) Article 78 in order to encourage them to go through the administrative process,” town Supervisor Elizabeth Spinzia said. Town Board members began working on the zoning amendments in 2011 after learning that language in the town’s 2009 comprehensive plan called for limiting mining to current operations, but a map produced by Dutchess County showed mining would be allowed on entire parcels. Efforts to simply update the map drew objections from Red Wing Sand and Gravel. Read the full story in the Daily Mail.
