Village of Chatham must pay IRS penalties
Jan 04, 2019 12:32 am
Emilia Teasdale reports in The Columbia Paper that the Internal Revenue Service is not letting the Village of Chatham get out of the $18,112 in penalties it owes for failure to pay federal payroll taxes. Village Treasurer Robert Patterson told The Columbia Paper December 27 that the payroll taxes were only paid “sporadically.” The Village Board says the money was held in an account for payroll and disbursements, so nothing was missing. “To date, the IRS has waived $11,930 in penalties that the current treasurer requested in a letter in June 2018,” Village Mayor Tom Curran read from a statement at the December 13 Chatham board meeting. The next regular Chatham meeting is at 7 p.m., January 14 at the Tracy Memorial/Village Hall. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
