Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Sears store in Greenport is closing. The Sears Hometown Store located at 160 Fairview Ave. announced on its Facebook page last month the store would be closing soon. It is unclear when exactly that will occur, and what will happen to the store’s employees. Sears Holdings Corp. did not return multiple requests for comment, Purcell writes. Sears Hometown Stores differ from Sears’ department stores because they are locally owned and operated. However, the Greenport location will join dozens of Sears outlet stores nationwide when it is shuttered. Sears filed for bankruptcy protection Oct. 8.
