46th SD candidates Amedore, Niccoli debate
Kyle Hughes is reporting for NYSNYS News incumbent Republican state Senator George Amedore and Democratic challenger Sara Niccoli faced off at a League of Women Voters event at the Guilderland town library, Tue., Oct. 25. Amedore called for term limits and public pension forfeiture to clean up Albany corruption, but Niccoli pointed a finger of blame at him and said campaign contributions are the true problem. “George Amedore’s first job is his real estate development firm and it is no wonder that millions and millions of dollars from the real estate industry has been invested in his campaign,” she said. Niccoli repeatedly linked Amedore, his values and policies, to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In her closing statement, Niccoli said Amedore has "demonstrated lock-step allegiance" to Trump's values. Amedore did not have a chance to respond because under the rules the debate ended with Niccoli's comments. “I think it’s a desperate move and kind of sour grapes, no question,” Amedore said afterwards. The two 46th Senate District candidates found common group criticizing the SAFE Act, but otherwise disagreed on abortion rights, education tax credits and disfranchisement of those convicted of felonies. The event Tuesday was the only full debate in the campaign so far. Both candidates will appear at an Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce breakfast forum in Kingston, Thu., Oct. 27.
