Supervisors still exploring idea of privatization

Oct 01, 2013 5:46 am
Nathan Mayberg is reporting in the Register Star the Columbia County Board of Supervisors is continuing to look into the possibility of privatizing the county's Solid Waste Department. Ancram Town Supervisor Art Bassin said the department is losing approximately half a million dollars a year. Solid Waste Commissioner Jolene Race said she has met with private haulers to discuss the possibility of having them take over certain county operations, but there was not enough interest. The county operates its own recycling center and has eight transfer stations. Bassin will be Tom DePietro's guest on @Issue, Wed., Oct. 2, to discuss the privatization of some county services and other county issues. Read the full story in the Register Star.
