Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media dairy farmer Michael Miller of Millerhurst Farm in Acramdale lost all but one of his cows after a fast-moving fire destroyed his barn late in the day, October 14. Firefighters were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. at 3195 Route 82, and they arrived to find the barn fully engulfed in flames. The structure was home to 47 cows, “I am at a loss,” owner Michael Miller said the day after. “The farm is my whole life right there.” The farm has been in the Miller family since 1770. “I am too young to retire,” Miller said. “The cows have been my life...” The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Ancram Fire Chief David Boice said. The blaze is believed to have started in the southern end of the barn, he said. No farmers or firefighters at the scene were injured. Firefighters from 15 departments responded.
