Hoosick Falls residents turn to Twitter

Jun 11, 2016 12:05 am

Casey Seiler reports in Capitol Confidential that several residents of Hoosick Falls are attempting to get attention for the water crisis there with a new Twitter account full of photos of residents with the amount perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, in their bodies. The chemical has been found in water supplies there. The average level of PFOA in most people's blood is 2.08 parts per billion, according to state officials. But Hoosick Falls residents are testing with a “geometric mean” level of 23.5 ppb, or roughly 11 times the national average. “Hoosick Falls WILL be heard on our PFOA contamination!!,” one of the tweets from @PFOAProjectNY reads. “This project puts faces to blood level numbers,” says another message. “We deserve hearings and support.” Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
