Town Justice threatens to sue Athens

Melanie Lekocevic in The Daily Mail reports that Athens Town Justice James Robinson told the Town Board at the December meeting he may file an Article 78 lawsuit against the town if they cut employee health insurance. The Board is considering dropping entire family coverage, and lowering that individual coverage to 85 percent of the costs, rather than the current 90 percent or 100 percent they pay (the story mentions both figures). “When I ran for re-election, this was supposed to be part of my compensation, and now I find out I [might not] receive it,” Robinson said. “If I knew there wouldn’t be insurance then I might not have run for office again.” After the meeting, Robinson told Lekocevic that he could not determine whether he would file the lawsuit until the town took action.
