Positive Train Control installed on Metro North below Poughkeepsie

Mid-Hudson News reports that Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi said Sept. 23 that full Positive Train Control is currently in use between Croton-Harmon and Poughkeepsie. Positive train control is a system for improving railway safety. A 2013 Metro-North derailment killed four people after the engineer headed into a curve at excessive speed, something the PTC system is designed to prevent. Since then, newspapers have run a story annually about how implementation of the system has been delayed. Now, six years later, it is installed below Poughkeepsie.
