Town of Woodstock looking for volunteer shoppers

Apr 15, 2020 10:15 am
William J. Kemble is reporting for the Daily Freeman Woodstock town officials are looking for volunteers to help fill grocery lists for those at risk in public places during the coronavirus pandemic. The request was discussed April 14, during a town board video conference meeting. Supervisor Bill McKenna said requests have come from about 75 people and there are currently eight to 10 volunteers willing and able to make pickups and deliveries. “There are one or two town employees, and the rest are all volunteers,” he said. “I could easily use double that because it’s a lot of work doing the shopping. Some of the shoppers might do two or three and then take a break for a couple of days. Others are doing two or three for a couple days in a row.” The program started on April 8 and made 35 deliveries during the first week. McKenna said the town has received an equal amount of requests from other communities, as well. He said there is also a need for someone to develop a phone app that can make a list and get it to the store directly. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
