Feb 13, 2020 3:15 pm
Abby Hoover is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media developers are looking to build a 50-room hotel in the former McKinstry Mansion, located at 7th and Union streets in Hudson. Representatives of the project developer, 620 Hudson House LLC, presented a proposal to the Columbia County Industrial Development Agency and city Planning Board on February 11; the plan will be discussed with the Hudson Historic Preservation Committee on February 28. The historic brick structure housed the Home for the Aged for nearly 100 years. While the 620 Hudson group is not looking for bond financing, it is asking the IDA to take an interest in the property and lease it back. The company would have all of the obligations of ownership. “What we’re looking for is exemption from New York State sales and use tax, and we have estimated that amount to be $250,000,” the group's attorney Joe Scott said. F. Michael Tucker, president and CEO of the Columbia Economic Development Corporation said the project would help the IDA get “back on track” after the Wick Hotel project in 2016. The existing building is 15,000 square feet, but the final project will double that size. When complete, the hotel would create 30 new jobs, developers say.
