May 17, 2021 2:00 pm

Raymond Pignone is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media voters in the Windham-Ashland-Jewett School District will be asked to approve the district's proposed 2021-22 spending plan totaling $12.7 million, an increase in spending of just under $155,000, or 1.23 percent over the current year. The tax levy increase is 1.58 percent, which falls within the state mandated tax cap. The proposed budget allocates $250,000 of the district fund balance to help reduce the overall tax levy, according to school officials. Voters will also be asked to authorize a reserve fund called the 2021 Bus Purchase Reserve Fund for the purchase of school vehicles and equipment and to fund a new Bus Purchase Reserve Fund with the remaining balance of the existing 2015 Bus Purchase Reserve Fund. Voters will also choose from either Jean Jaeger or incumbent Teri Martin to fill one open board seat. Jaeger lives with her family in Prattsville and owns and operates her own landscaping and mowing business. In the winter months, she manages the Wintergreen Club. She has served for 25 years as a volunteer member of the Hensonville Hose Company. Teri Martin lives with her family in Windham and teaches at four different universities. She is the current president of the school board and formerly served as its vice president. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
