Town of Catskill shuts down Monday for DeBenedictus burial

Oct 21, 2019 12:29 am
The Town of Catskill is closing all buildings and services on Oct. 21, after the death of town's Receiver of Taxes Michael DeBenedictus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 21 at St. Anthony Friary with interment following at the Town of Catskill Cemetery. The first responder ambulance corps and, in the event of a weather emergency, Catskill's highway department will be open. The Town of Catskill posted a message on its website that read, "There are no words to describe the contributions made by Michael DeBenedictus to the Town of Catskill. He served as our Receiver of Taxes but that role doesn’t begin to capture all he did for his beloved Catskill. A leader of seniors at the Robert C Antonelli Senior Center and beyond, Michael was the epitome of what being a public servant should be. To say he will be missed doesn’t begin to capture the loss to his family, his colleagues in public service, and the entire community. We extend our sympathies to Sam and the family and will join them in celebrating Michael’s extraordinary life."
