The village of Valatie has made NewYorkUpstate [dot] com's list of the 30 fastest-growing cities and villages in Upstate New York. The Columbia County village, with a 2018 population of 1,864, has grown nearly 3 percent since 2010, according to the latest population estimates from the U.S. Census. It was the only place in Columbia or Greene counties to make the rankings. The website points out that while New York has more people moving out than in these days, the 50 locations it named are defying the trend. The top five locations, ranked by population growth, were: the villages Round Lake and Waterford, both in Saratoga County; and the villages of Montgomery, Maybrook and Kiryas Joel in Orange County. The number of residents living in Kiryas Joel has grown 24.5 percent in the past nine years for a total population of more than 25,000 people. Read the full list at NewYorkUpstate [dot] com.
