Clarence Fanto is reporting for The Berkshire Eagle the Boston Symphony’s plans for the Tanglewood festival now include a 3-foot social distancing policy for ticket holders seated inside the Koussevitzky Music Shed for all symphony-related performances. The policy decision was made based on guidance from the Tre-Town Health Department, the state and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While masking and physical distancing will no longer will be required, the orchestra announced, both precautions are recommended for unvaccinated audience members. The regulations from the local health boards limit total attendance to 9,000, or half of the venue's normal capacity. During the July 9-Aug. 16 BSO and Boston Pops season, no more than 2,400 listeners will be seated in the shed and 6,600 on the lawn for those performances. The 9,000 overall capacity allowance will apply to all 2021 Popular Artist performances, but there will be no capacity restrictions in the shed, which seats 5,000. In a related story, Fanto writes that for the second consecutive summer, there will be no James Taylor concert at Tanglewood. Taylor's August 31 performance has been postponed to July 4, 2022. “I’m disappointed and frustrated to have to announce the postponement of my August 31 concert at Tanglewood,” Taylor said in a statement.
