Republican Marc Molinaro running for Congress
The Daily Freeman is reporting Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro has filed the necessary paperwork to run for New York’s 19th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022. Molinaro, a Republican from Red Hook, filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission September 17. He did not immediately issue a statement about running. Molinaro, 45, is in the middle of his third four-year term as county executive. He previously served as a state assemblymember, county legislator and as mayor of the village of Tivoli. In 2018, he ran an unsuccessful campaign against incumbent Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor. Next fall Molinaro will likely be challenging Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado, of Rhinebeck, who is now serving his second term in the House. The district could be reconfigured and renumbered before the 2022 election, but because Molinaro and Delgado live in adjacent towns in northern Dutchess County, they will likely wind up in the same district.
