Dec 12, 2019 1:15 pm
Nick Reisman is reporting for New York State of Politics Greene County businessman and founder of Fighting for Children PAC Gary Greenberg is planning a run for state Senate. Greenberg on December 11, announced the formation of an exploratory committee to fill the 46th Senate District seat currently occupied by George Amedore. Amedore recently announced he would not seek re-election in 2020. A resident of New Baltimore, Greenberg actively lobbied for passage of the Child Victims Act, an experience that gave him a broader prospective on state issues, he said. Greenberg said in a statement, “Public service is about fighting for the interests of the people you were elected to represent, getting laws passed, securing financial resources for local organizations.” Pointing to the $6 billion budget gap lawmakers face next year, Greenberg signaled opposition to the idea of increasing taxes to close it. “We cannot simply continue to raise taxes in New York State,” he said. “We need elected officials that have the ability to be independent and wont be a rubber stamp for unending tax increases. New Yorkers need jobs and a future, they need elected officials who can get that job done.” Greenberg will compete with Michelle Hinchey for the Democratic nomination.
