Legislative leaders set priorities in Albany

Jan 11, 2019 12:33 am
David Lombardo reports in Capitol Confidential that Democratic leaders in the state legislature have set their priorities for the beginning of the session. The legislature is set to take on election reforms on Jan. 14, and bills expanding LGBTQ rights and banning conversion therapy on Jan. 16. The Democratic leaders in the Senate and Assembly then will attempt to pass several women’s health bills, including the Reproductive Health Act and Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, and education measures, such as an overhaul of teacher evaluations and the DREAM Act on January 22 and 23. Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo will give his annual budget address on Jan. 15. With Democrats controlling both chambers, Cuomo should be busy signing bills soon. “I think we have an historic 100 days here and a great opportunity. We just have to get it done,” Cuomo said. “We have the agenda, we just have to make sure we don’t trip over our own feet and get it done.” Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
