GOP fields few candidates in Ulster County

Doxsey reports in The Daily Freeman that Ulster County Republicans announced a few candidates, but not many, for November elections at their nominating convention Feb. 23 at the Ulster Town Hall in Lake Katrine. They picked Michael J. Kavanagh of Saugerties to run for district attorney, but did not name candidates for Ulster County executive or county judge. They backed ten incumbent GOP legislators for re-election and nominated five new candidates for seats on the county Legislature, but seven legislative seats now held by Democrats will be unchallenged in November unless new candidates step forth. "We still have time and I've got some feelers out there and may have a surprise," said Committee Chairman Roger Rascoe. But not much time, as new state election rules have candidates begin circulating designating petitions on Feb. 26, with all petitions due April 4.
