Ancram deploys new speed signs

Jan 11, 2019 3:00 pm
Diane Valden is reporting for The Columbia Paper the town of Ancram is aflutter over the two newly purchased Evolis radar speed signs now positioned along roads at various locations frequented by speeding motorists. The signs, purchased for $5,500, were made in France and "conceived and designed as street furniture," with “a compact design that fits perfectly in any city environment.” Beyond that, Valden reports, the signs seem to be working. “The bottom line,” Ancram Town Board member Hugh Clark said, “is that with the two signs and the greater police presence and attention, the hiring of extra patrols is not warranted at this time.” Ancram is the first and only town in the county to employ speed signs as a municipality. Resident Prope Dietter finds one new sign, located outside of house, quite entertaining. He gets a kick out of the flashing lights and seeing which drivers set them off and calls his granddaughter, the town clerk, if he sees anything noteworthy. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
