Ulster SPCA prepares for arrival of 12 dogs rescued from high-kill shelters

Apr 08, 2019 12:45 pm
Patricia Doxsey is reporting for the Daily Freeman a dozen dogs previously marked for death at animal shelters in Florida and South Carolina will soon be heading north to the Ulster County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals with the help of Brooklyn-based Pilots to the Rescue. A mama dog and her nine pups are among the dogs arriving Wed., April 10, in Ulster. The dogs were targeted for euthanasia, and are coming from shelters in Highlands County, Florida, and Horry County, South Carolina. They are scheduled to be flown into Wurtsboro-Sullivan County Airport by volunteers and Pilots to the Rescue, said Jill Rodriquez, the Ulster County SPCA marketing coordinator. Upon arrival at the Weidy Road shelter, they will be examined, spayed, vaccinated and put up for adoption. This will be the Ulster County SPCA's third rescue mission this year. "We're a no-kill shelter, so we would never euthanize for space," Rodriquez said. She said this is the first time the SPCA has partnered with Pilots to the Rescue.
