Czajka joins challenge to Cuomo's EO
May 17, 2017 12:05 am
Brendan J. Lyons reports in The Albany Times Union that Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka joined other Republican DA's from Cayuga County and Allegany County to file a petition May 15 against an Andrew Cuomo executive order allowing the state attorney general to take over cases where unarmed civilians are killed by police. The petition is to Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove's court challenge of the constitutionality of Cuomo's executive order. Currently, state attorney general Eric Schneiderman's office is investigating Abelove's handling of the April 2016 fatal shooting by police of a DWI suspect by a Troy police sergeant. Schneiderman has seized Abelove's cell phone and some emails in his investigation of the police shooting. Read the full story in The Albany Times Union.
