No vote on recreational marijuana this year

David Lombardo is reporting for the Times Union legislation to legalize recreational use of marijuana in New York is dead for this year. Lawmakers attempted June 19, to salvage the legislation, but ultimately failed to secure the votes needed to make it through the state Legislature and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's approval. State Sen. Liz Krueger, a Manhattan Democrat who sponsored the bill, confirmed the measure will not be voted on this year. "This is not the end of the road, it is only a delay," Krueger said in a statement. Bills are still floating around the Capitol that would address different components of the legalization proposal, but the governor said earlier this week that all the components should be addressed together.
