Gun legislation going nowhere in Senate

Burgess Everett reports at Politico New York a bill in the U.S. Senate backed by the National Rifle Association and President Donald Trump to improve records and information-sharing in the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System is likely going nowhere. Republicans on the right say it is too strict, and Democrats on the left say it does not do nearly enough to help stop the many school shootings, and other mass shootings. “If we only pass Fix NICS, we’ll be right back here after the next shooting, in nearly the same place. If all Congress does in response to the Parkland shooting is to pass Fix NICS, we won’t have done our job. We must do more than that,” New York Senator Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor Feb. 26.
