Greene County led the Mid-Hudson region in job growth in April, according to data released Thurs., May 16, by the state Department of Labor. Employment increased by 4.3 percent in Greene County; during the same period the number of jobs increased by 1.9 percent in Columbia County. Between March and April, the statewide unemployment rate fell to under 8 percent, its lowest level in four years. The state economy added a total of 23,800 private sector jobs in April. The greatest job gains were reported in the private educational and health services, and the professional and business services sectors. The government sector reported the greatest losses.
