Hannaford vows to go 100 percent renewable by 2024

Larry Rulison reports in the Times Union Hannaford Supermarkets plan to be operating on 100 percent renewable energy by 2024. The large supermarket chain, with local branches in Kinderhook, Livingston, and Cairo, currently operates on 30 percent renewable energy through 30 community solar contracts in New York and New England. "This is an important step forward," said George Parmenter, who leads sustainability efforts for Hannaford. "We plan to keep on that path." Community solar farms sell shares of the electricity produced to local residents and businesses. Hannaford's parent company says it will be net carbon zero by 2040.
